Health and nutrition ideas, recipes and tips.

Shauna Carpenter

Why am I writing a blog?

I’m a certified Fitness Nutrition Specialist who likes to stick to a plant-strong diet and love to share what I’ve learned about nutrition, health and fitness. I believe food can be like medicine, and eating healthy doesn’t have to be bland and boring. I will also share some delicious recipes I’ve created, and some tips and tricks I’ve learned on my health journey.

I’ve studied nutrition and fitness since I was eight years old when I got my first book pertaining to the subject. It only took a few pages and I was hooked. I realized even at a young age that what I put in my body will do something for me or to me, good or bad, and I wanted to explore that further.

It’s been a long journey of ups and downs over the years. There were times I ate nothing but fast food when I was younger and was about 20lbs overweight, and times I was too skinny and didn’t eat enough. I’ve gotten smarter about my choices as I’ve gotten older. So in my quest to feel better, have less pain and enjoy more energy and good days – I have studied many of the ‘greats’ of our time. I frequently check out Dr. Greger’s YouTube videos and website, but I’ve also gotten pretty good at researching various scientific studies and health-related topics myself. And if you haven’t seen the film Forks Over Knives, go watch it, it’s very interesting.

Why Vegan Snackums in the web address? Well, I call snacks or mini meals “snackums” or “snackidys” because I like the cute sound of them. Hence, Vegan Snackums. Although I’m not 100% vegan, I do like to try to eat a ton of veggies and limit animal products as much as I can to stay healthy.

I hope you enjoy!

  1. You put it precisely the reason why I am writing a blog too, ‘simply to get all of this information and knowledge out of my head so it’s no longer taking up space.’ This format is better than a journal (unless you take criticism personally) because you can get feedback and further information to extend your knowledge. I look forward to reading more!
